What is IPL Hair Removal?

Picture
What is IPL?

IPL stands for intense pulsed light. It is a form of light therapy, used for various dermatological procedures including hair removal. IPL is a popular hair removal treatment that helps kill the hairs, so they don’t come back.

How does IPL work?

IPL works by emitting a wavelength into the skin. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair, which quickly turns to heat killing the growing cells that make the hair.

For IPL hair removal to work, the hair has to be living, meaning it has to be attached to the bulb of growing cells. This is why you need to have up to 12 treatments of hair removal to catch all hairs in their living cycle.
How often do I need to get the treatment?

We recommend that you get treated every four weeks. Clients usually start to notice a difference after eight weeks, or two treatments.

What's the difference between IPL and laser hair removal technology?

Unlike laser hair removal, IPL does not use a laser light source but instead uses a broad spectrum high-intensity light that emits light at multiple wavelengths. While laser devices emit one single focused wavelength to maximize follicle absorption, IPL covers larger patches of hair.

Does it hurt?

Although not painless, IPL is considered less painful than other hair removal methods like epilating and waxing.

What areas can you treat?

We can treat most areas – legs, bikini, underarms and face. You can find a full list with prices on our website.
