A new season is here which means it's time to look back at a few of our favourite nails from summer (oh how we miss sunny days!)
Autumn usually brings out deeper, darker colours and of course, neutrals will be here to stay! But during summer we had fun painting bright, colourful nails to match the UK's weather.
Kicking off with this glorious set from May. Although not officially summer, we love them and the weather was good so we're having it!
Back in June we had a throwback to winter and created this icy blue set using Shellac.

The summer holidays are in full swing, and many of us are jetting off on our holidays or making the most of the UK sun. While you’re living your best life in the sun, it’s really important to protect yourself.
And you know, nothing says a Brit a holiday like lobster red shoulders and tan lines! Here’s nine sunburn myths and how to look after your skin.
Myth: You won’t burn in the shade
Sorry to break it to you, but you can. UV radiation reflects off nearby surfaces and can cause you to burn. According the World Health Organisation, even the most seemingly benign surfaces can increase your chances of burning. For example, sea foam reflects 25 percent of UV radiation, sand reflects 15 percent.
Myth: It’s OK to tan as long as you don’t burn
Although having a tan is known to make you look like you have a health glow, that bronzed skin is actually sun damage. It’s very sad but St Tropez is here to get us through the pale times!
Myth: You can’t get a sunburn when it’s cloudy
Not only can you still burn, it might be even worse than when it isn’t cloudy. We’re often more relaxed about applying sun cream when we can’t see the sun but 80% of the sun’s rays can pass through clouds according to the Skin Cancer Foundation. So, keep your cream topped up!
Myth: If you have dark skin, you don’t need sun cream
Basically, if you have skin, you can get sunburn. A naturally higher level of the pigment melanin does offer some protection from the sun, but it doesn’t mean that sun damage isn’t happening.
Myth: The first sign of a sunburn is pink skin
Pink skin is an obvious early sign but believe it’s not always the earliest sign. Look out for itching, skin tenderness, tightness and your skin turning white when you press it. If you notice any of the above, apply some sun cream, grab a glass of water and try to get out of the sun for a bit.
Myth: A higher SPF won’t provide greater protection for longer
The higher the SPF rating, the better the protection, not the longer the protection. You still need to make sure you are regularly reapplying sun cream.
Myth: Foods like tomatoes and strawberries will prevent sunburn
Strawberries contain vitamin C and tannins, which are beneficial to sun protection, and tomatoes contain lycopene, which is known to protect the skin from UV damage, but they shouldn’t be used as a replacement to sunscreen.
Myth: You will only burn between 10am and 2pm
While the sun’s rays are strongest during that window, burns can also happen earlier and later. So, if you’re out and so is the sun, you should protect yourself with sunscreen.
Myth: If you get a sunburn, look after it
After sun, aloe vera gel and cover-ups will be your best friends here. You only get one skin, so look after it.
This time of the year is always busy with people popping into the salon to get ready for their much deserved and much needed holiday, but for many that time has come and gone. The holiday blues are very real and we’re craving that vitamin D.

Everyone loves getting their nails done ready to go and lounge in the sun and look fabulous while on holiday. Plus, a bright colour will really make that tan pop.
After a holiday you should be feeling very relaxed, but something about coming back to reality can make you feel quite the opposite. A massage will give you the boost you need and make you feel your best. They’re also great for stimulating circulation so will be a great pick-me-up if you’re suffering from jet lag.

There are so many eyelash treatments out there, how do you know which one is right for you? We’re here to explain exactly what each treatment is, how long it takes, how long it lasts and whether it will require any maintenance.
Semi-permanent eyelash extensions
What are semi-permanent eyelash extensions?
The application of one extension to each individual eyelash. If you’re looking for fullness and length from your eyelash treatment, we’d recommend this one.
This treatment comes in a half set or a full set. Most people tend to start out with a half set of lash extensions. This look will add length and volume but still give a natural look.
When you opt for a full set of semi-permanent eyelash extensions, more extensions are added to give a more dramatic look.
How long do they last?
If you look after your lash extensions, they can last a full growth cycle of your natural lashes – typically 6-8 weeks but we do recommend you come back for a touch up every 2-4 weeks to maintain a full lash look. Eyelash extensions will fall out naturally along with the growth cycle of the natural lash, so don’t be alarmed. And make sure you don’t pick at your eyelash extensions because it will cause them to fall out and take your natural lashes with them!
How long do they take?
A full set of eyelash extensions takes about two and a half hours. A half set takes about an hour and a half.
Is there any maintenance involved?
Due to the nature of the treatment, there is maintenance involved, that’s the price we pay for beautiful lashes! Oil based products, like makeup remover and moisturiser should be avoided around your eyes as this can weaken the adhesive. You will also need to be careful you don’t rub or pull at your lashes as this will cause them to fall out.
How much does it cost?
Full set: £80
Half set: £49

Individual express eyelash extensions
What are individual express eyelash extensions?
The application of one extension to every other eyelash, rather than every lash like semi-permanent eyelash extensions. It won’t give as much of a full look but will still add length and volume to your natural lashes and will save you time and money on mascara!
How long do they last?
Similarly to eyelash extensions, if you look after your express extensions, they can last a full growth cycle of your natural lashes – typically 6-8 weeks.
How long do they take?
Express eyelash extensions take about an hour.
Is there any maintenance involved?
Again, oil-based products should be avoided around your eyes as this can weaken the adhesive and you will need to be careful you don’t rub or pull at your lashes as this will cause the extensions to fall out, taking your natural lash with them.
How much does it cost?
LVL lash lift
What is an LVL lash lift?
The treatment lifts your lashes from the root to create longer lashes with more volume. If you opt for a tint, this will also darken your eyelashes.
How long does it last?
An LVL lash lift can last up to six weeks.
How long does it take?
The treatment takes about an hour with a tint, and 45 minutes without a tint.
Is there any maintenance involved?
The benefit of a lash lift in comparison to extensions is that there is no maintenance required. You need to keep your lashes dry 24 hours after the treatment and that’s all!
How much does it cost?
A lash lift costs £35 and £45 with a tint
It’s worth noting that we will always conduct a patch test before extensions and lash lifts to ensure you don’t have a reaction.

So, you’re thinking of heading to the salon to get your first wax. We know the thought of waxing can be quite nerve-wracking, so we’ve put together the questions we get asked the most to help put your mind at ease.
Does it hurt?
The first question we’re always asked is, does it hurt?
We’re not going to lie, it does hurt, but less than you’d expect. In fact, after their first wax people tell us how much worse they thought it would be. The first time is always the most painful and after that, you get used to it. Sensitive areas like your bikini hurt more than less sensitive areas like your legs, but don’t let it put you off, the thought of it is much worse, we promise!
Is it better than shaving?
Shaving removes hair by cutting it off at the skin's surface with a razor, waxing actually removes hair from the root. With shaving, you will often feel stubble soon afterwards, with waxing the results last far longer. It’s all down to personal preference really but if you feel like you’re always shaving just for it to grow back days later, waxing may be for you.
I’ve heard that over time your hair gets thinner, is this true and how long does it take for it to happen?
Waxing pulls the hair out from the root. Doing this over a long period of time damages the hair bulb - sounds gross but it means your hair grows back less dense and finer which is a win, win if you ask us! It takes months of regular waxing for this to happen and it is important you don’t shave between appointments as this will interrupt the process.
How often do you need to get waxed?
We usually recommend getting waxed every four weeks. Over time, with regular waxing, the hair follicle will have less of a grip on the hair so it will come out more easily meaning it will be less painful.
What happens during the treatment?
During the treatment, warm wax will be applied to your skin following the direction that the hair grows. A thin strip of muslin fabric is pressed on the wax and is then pulled away in the opposite direction the hair grows. A calming moisturiser is then applied to help remove traces of the wax residue.
What happens during a bikini wax? Is it awkward? Do I have to take my knickers off?
It’s the same process as above but using a different type of wax. Lots of people think it might be awkward, but we have fully trained staff carrying out intimate waxes and they’ve seen it all before. Our members of staff will put you at ease and ensure you do not feel uncomfortable. Taking your knickers off varies on the salon but we provide you with disposable knickers to wear during the treatment.
Will I get ingrown hairs?
It’s possible to get ingrown hairs from waxing because the treatment removes hair from the root. After a wax, your skin will naturally harden and thicken, which could prevent hair from breaking through that layer of skin and become ingrown. To prevent ingrowing hairs, we advise you gently exfoliate a few days after the treatment and continue to do so once or twice a week. Remember, we said gently.
What do I do after I leave the salon?
Does my hair have to be a certain length to get waxed?
We recommend that the hair is a quarter to half an inch long as this gives enough length for best results. Once the hair becomes thinner after regular waxing, it can be waxed at a shorter length.
Can I shave between appointments?
It’s important to avoid shaving between waxing appointments, as this will interrupt the process and stimulate hair growth.
What are the different types of bikini waxing?
The removal of the hair on the area that would normally be outside of your bikini line.
High bikini wax
The same as a standard bikini but a little deeper on the sides and top.
The removal of most of the pubic hair, leaving a small shape - this could be a strip of hair or something more fun.
A Brazilian without the shape. Everything goes.

Ever felt the urge to doze off during a relaxing massage? And ever noticed how you sleep so much better at night after having one? Well, massage has been shown to reduce sleep disturbance and cause deeper sleep.
Eases pain and muscle soreness
This might be an obvious one but it’s well worth mentioning. Massage can help loosen knots in muscles and encourage blood flow. It can improve flexibility and help prevent injuries - gym bunnies we’re looking at you!
Back pain is so common now and a good ol’ massage can really help relieve your pain, make you more comfortable and ultimately help you sleep better at night. Win, win we think.

Boosts your mood and soothes anxiety
Massages are relaxing and if they help you sleep better and cause fewer headaches, it makes perfect sense that they will boost your mood, but it goes a bit further than that. Massage can also soothe anxiety and depression. Massages can reduce levels of that pesky stress hormone, cortisol, and boost your happy hormones, serotonin and dopamine, resulting in a better mood and lower blood pressure.
Massage therapy has been linked to boosting your immune system. In 2010 researchers found that a 45-minute massage can increase the number of white blood cells that help defend the body from disease.
For the love of hair and skin
Better sleep, less illness, and better moods are bound to make you feel better. And what happens when you feel better? You look better.
Massage increases your blood flow, which plumps up your skin, and encourages lymphatic drainage (flushes toxins out of your cells to allow more nutrients in), so regular massages can add vitality to your complexion and your locks. We want in!
No more slouching
It’s no surprise that most of us don’t have great postures and a lot of people end up carrying a lot of stress in their shoulders and neck. Lucky for us then that massage can help counteract this and improve your posture.

Anyone else feeling paler than pale right now? It’s looking like winter is showing signs of disappearing and summer feels like it’s on the way, but we’re a long way off that golden brown tan. Luckily St Tropez has got our backs to give us that much needed golden glow all year-round. Phew!
But how do you prolong your spray tan and make it last as long as possible?
A long-lasting tan starts before you get to the salon
The trick is to prep your skin before your appointment. Start exfoliating every day, three days before you’re due in the salon. Check out our blog for a fab homemade exfoliator recipe.
Exfoliating beforehand will ensure your skin is in the best condition prior to your treatment. Try to shower and exfoliate about eight hours before your spray tan as this will allow your skin to settle and it will be at its best pH balance for the tan to develop.
Sorry about the waffle, in short, exfoliate and try not to use any heavy moisturisers on the day.
On the day
You already know not to use any heavy body lotions as this could lighten the tan but what should you wear to your appointment?
Anything loose is a good bet, and if possible, avoid wearing a bra - you got a spray tan to avoid tan lines after all. We’re not fussy about what you turn up in, or what you leave in, so anything comfy and loose goes!
You’ll need to remove any deodorant and foundation before your treatment as the barrier could mean an uneven tan and no one wants that!
We get a lot of questions about your first shower after a tan. Our best advice would be to avoid chemicals and stick to natural products where possible and don’t have the shower too hot.
Moisturising is key
Hydrating your skin will make your tan last but be sure to avoid oil-based moisturisers. Try to moisturise in the shower or straight after and you’ll be on to a winner.
Don’t sweat it
We’re talking heavy exercise, sunscreen and chlorine. These are all a no go for a long lasting golden glow. What better excuse do you need to skip the gym?
Don’t worry if you do any of these things though, we’ll explain below!
Call in backup
A good spray tan will last about 10 days but you can extend the shelf life of your golden glow with the help of an at-home gradual tan. We love St Tropez in shower gradual tan because it’s super quick and easy! It’ll top up your tan nicely between appointments in just three minutes. We recommend using it every three to four days to boost your colour.
If you do have a gym sesh, just use a this in the shower after to save any damage to your tan.
Back to exfoliating
Light exfoliation is the best way to avoid blotchiness. You’ll need to do this every two to three days to make sure you keep an even glow. Try to use a gentle formula so that it doesn’t damage the tan.
